Hello! My name is Guillermo and, when I was 31 years old, my life changed drastically. I was on holiday when I started to feel unwell and very tired. After a blood test I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
I’m not going to lie to you, it wasn’t easy. I started the treatment and it seemed endless… it’s a long, rough illness that can be very difficult at times. But everything changed when we saw that my brother was 100% compatible with me and thanks to his generosity, he saved my life with his bone marrow donation. From then on, everything got better.
I am here writing these words after 2 years, and I am happy to be able to do so. I have come this far thanks to all the people who work tirelessly to ensure that we never feel alone. Special thanks to the hospital’s medical team, to all the researchers and to the Josep Carreras Foundation.
I will always be grateful to my brother for giving me this new opportunity to live. But not everyone is a match for a family member, and many need the generosity of an anonymous person to be able to have a bone marrow transplant. GO AHEAD and find out more!
