Hello, my name is Vanessa and I would like you to meet my son Bruno. He is unstoppable against acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. The diagnosis came in August 2017 and it was a very hard blow for the whole family.
We spent the first month in hospital, the logistics were not easy, but we managed. We were gradually beginning to see the light, but then, in March 2018, Bruno started having severe headaches. An MRI was performed and the result was a malignant fungus: Lichtheimia Corymbifera.
We spent 3 months in Vigo fighting the fungus, but just when we thought we were getting there, after 3 operations, we were sent to Barcelona for emergency treatment. The fungus had spread to the skull and was too close to the brain.
We spent 3 months alone in Barcelona. Isolated from the world and struggling. It was not easy, Bruno had to be operated on and his right eye and part of the maxillofacial had to be removed to ensure that the area was completely clean. And, at last, we were able to return home. In November 2018 the control MRI came back clean with no fungal involvement. It was wonderful news!
Today Bruno is doing well, he has returned to school and is growing up fast. He also has a little sister who has become the target of his games and mischief.
Bruno, you are Unstoppable.
Vanessa
